Bond

While the possibilities seem endless, we are still in the early days of smart home technology. Thankfully, there are companies like Olibra – who are on the cutting edge in this emerging field. What they have now is just the beginning of what is to come. Brings the Internet of Things to everyday living unleashing a new standard of life.

As for the dimmer, I have tried a lot of different commands but nothing works (numbers, medium, etc...). So I can control the fan speed and turn the fan and lights n and off. I need the APP or remote to change the direction or dim the lights. It isn't ideal but works enough that I won't complain too much. I am not happy with the research I found on future Bond development, because they promised for years they would provide us with features that we need but haven't come out with yet. I wanted a fan I could reverse on command, I didn't get that.

Percentage of Sales Per Hour

If you have a computer, you can connect it to your smart home automation system and control it all from your smartphone. Save moneyControl any combination of up to 30 ceiling fans, fireplaces, and shades. Devices like ceiling fans don’t transmit a signal. Therefore, a device like Bond can always send out a signal that tells them to turn on or off, but it won’t definitively know whether the signal is received or what the current state of the device is. The idea here is to give you total control of any ceiling fan in your house, remotely, using your mobile phone or tablet, plus the Bond controller and app. We have seen a lot of home automation systems that are really good at monitoring the temperature of appliances in your home, and controlling lights and TVs.

Home automation and smart technology is not just about making your home more energy efficient and secure, there’s also some fun to be had. Once everything has been setup correctly, all the functions that you have through your remote control are now available through the app -or your voice-controlled device. So you can control any aspect of the fan from the phone in your pocket, wherever you happen to be. So you can pick up the Bond at what is presumably a low introductory price – and turn your ceiling fans into something you can program from your phone at any time and from any location – via wi-fi. Currently, you can control up to six ceiling fans through a single Bond unit – and they need not be six of the same brand of style. All you do is name them differently, according to which room they’re in, and connect them to your network.

I have 2 items that I would put on a wish list, if I were to improve this product. 1) Allow the ability to name different BOND units when you have multiple units.Or allow for a drop down menu where you can have different homes and BONDs in each home. 2) Allow for more than 6 devices to be attached to each BOND. I have 6-7 fans, 3-4 fireplaces and other devices per home. So to fully automate, I need to purchase more than one BOND per home. 2 are on outside porches, 3 are upstairs, 4 are on the main level.

Within minutes, the fan is paired to your Bond and you can then issue your control commands and watch what happens. The Bond makes your ceiling fan “Smart” by acquiring the signal from your device’s original IR or RF remote control. Our ceiling fans use either IR or RF to talk to the remote control. Product works great, I just got a new fan and this is a great solution to controlling it. Hopefully one day I can hook up the other remote I have to my upstairs fan but the ceiling is very high so I'm nervous. I'd get more of a value from this product if I had multiple fans to set it up with.

I was able to set this up with Alexa and Google Home, everything works as advertised. I actually had an issue with setup but I went to the manufacturer's website and got an online chat rep instantly. Turns out I needed to sync it using a different button, was tricky because my remote didn't have the most of the exact buttons it was asking me to use for sync. Once setup though I am able to control every function of my fan and light. Each fan comes with its own remote control, assigned directly to that particular machine. Typically, ceiling fan remotes have jumpers or dip switches to change their frequency.

Range is good although I need to try relocating further away to determine just how far I can go. The biggest down side for me was the full retail price, which is a bit excessive, but if you can get it on sale it's worthwhile. If it can be controlled with one remote, it is one device. However, the fan speed should still work regardless. Do you press the same button to turn the lights on/off? If you have the former and use remotes to turn lights on/off, you should not use the “track state” option.

With the way smart phones and tablets are, we might see a lot more of this sort of thing, than a lot of people give credit for. This is the Bonds initial roll-out, just controlling a ceiling fan. The Bond even controls fans that are not Smart Home enabled which means you don’t have to purchase the newest generation fan for this technology to work. Just imagine being able to use your “Flip Phone” and do everything you now do with your smartphone. You’ll be able to turn fans off and on and adjust speeds – as well as the light attached to the fan. You can do it right from the app, or by using your Alexa or Google voice activated device.

It’s an economical way to turn your ceiling fans into smart fans. The one caveat being that the smart fan needs to be a remote-controlled fan. So don’t forget, if you have the old-style fan that is powered on and off by a switch, you need to switch it to a remote controlled ceiling fan first. Once this step is complete, you can pair it with the Bond and you have a smart ceiling fan that you can control from anywhere. Not only can your heating be monitored and controlled using smart technology, but so can your other utilities and bills.

Soon, the Bond will be able to control all sorts of remote controlled devices and appliances for your smart home like your garage doors, air conditioners, and fireplace heaters. But this is so new, that as of this writing, it only works with ceiling fans and fireplaces. The good news is that the hardware to do this and much more is already available. To convert those additional appliances and devices to “smart” – only requires an update in software – which is in the works.
